DELTA
There are still good numbers of striped bass on both the San Joaquin and Sacramento rivers. Bait dunkers and trollers taking some two-fish limits with some weighing over 20 pounds. Most of the spring run has spawned outing making a bee-line for the salt waters of San Francisco Bay. The striped bass fishing should remain stable for at least the next two weeks. Sturgeon still making an appearance in the Suisun bay area with salmon roe eels strips and shrimp baits providing the best action. Field scouts report that they are having as much as 6 to 10 hook ups on a daily basis.
AMERICAN RIVER
The shad run is in full force on the American River For the best action cast grubs or shad darts in the white and red or yellow and red patterns. Daily limit is 25 fish. Great for the smoker.
FEATHER RIVER
American shad are in the system in good numbers where anglers are scoring on the poor man’s steelhead. Some striped bass showing off Boyd’s Pump and Shanghai Bend sections of the river all of the way into the Yuba River.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY
Charterboats putting their clients into some quality halibut 36 pounds and some limits of striped bass to 25 pounds along with some 20-plus pound white sea bass in the mix. The halibut have been averaging 10 to 15 pounds lately with a good number of anglers going home with a three-fish limit.
OCEAN
Lingcod and rockfish limits are the rule outside the gate and other locations along the coastline. The best salmon fishing is taking place in Half moon bay where several party boats have taken limits for their clients up to 23 pounds.
LOS VAQUEROS RESERVOIR
Los Vaqueros reservoir in Contra Costa County has been kicking out a few nice striped bass to 22 pounds lately along with catfish weighing over 14 pounds. Most of the striped bass are keepers ranging in size from 18 to 24 inches in length. The best baits continue to be anchovies or threadfin shad either from a boat or off the shoreline Chicken livers working best for catfish. The sections of the lake to fish are the South Cove or past the Rockwall. For trout most of the anglers are using garlic scented Powerbait followed by nightcrawlers and lures. The last trout plant took place on May 17 when 2000 pounds of rainbow trout were placed into the impoundment. The water level is currently at 155,000 acre feet.
